Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,332) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,859) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,768) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,872) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from August 1 to 31, 2026, (94) people in total; (45) women and (49) men, were killed by the junta across the country, including (12) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a six-month-old girl. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (80) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (58) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On August 10, Taungoo Air Force Base Command of the junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using jet fighter aircraft on villages in Shwegyin Township and Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region. The bombs exploded in Hpa Yar Gyi Village, Shwegyin Township, killing three individuals: Nilar; Naw El Jar Linn, a child under the age of 18; and Naw Shee Du Phaw, an internally displaced person from Mar Pi Khoe Village who was taking refuge there. Several other civilians were also injured.
