Dr Nay Soe Maung faces new charge under Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law while serving three-year prison term

Dr Nay Soe Maung, the son-in-law of former Senior General Than Shwe, who is serving a three-year prison term, has been charged with a new case under Section 66(d) of the Telecommunications Law and is now facing legal action at the Pyigyitagun Township Court in Mandalay, according to sources.


Dr Nay Soe Maung was arrested and detained at the Pyigyitagun Township Police Station in Mandalay on October 23, 2024, for inciting and spreading propaganda on social media with the intention of undermining national peace and security.


He was then charged under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code at the Pyigyitagun Township Court, and on January 16, 2025, the prison court sentenced him to three years in prison.


Dr Nay Soe Maung is the son of retired Major General Tin Sein and the son-in-law of former Senior General Than Shwe. His son is Ko Nay Shwe Thway Aung.
