Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Son Welcomes ICRC Visit as ‘First Positive Development’

Kim Aris, the youngest son of detained Myanmar democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, said on Monday the meeting between his mother and a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) brought him hope, calling it the “first positive development” in her case in over five years.

The Myanmar regime said Arnaud de Baecque, the ICRC’s resident representative in Myanmar, met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on Monday morning and released photos of the meeting.

In a statement confirming the meeting, the ICRC said the visit was carried out in line with its standards and procedures for meeting people deprived of liberty, including an opportunity to speak with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in private.
