⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,041) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


A total of (30,977) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,214) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,874) remain to be verified.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to May 13, 2026, (94) people in total; (47) women and (47) men, were killed by the junta in Sagaing Region, including (17) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (76) people who were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (236) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.


On the afternoon of March 23, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing with jet fighter aircraft on Thaung Gyi Village, Myaung Township, Sagaing Region. The explosion in the northern part of the village killed five residents and a five-year-old child, as a result of bomb shrapnel.
