Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,952) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


A total of (30,692) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,402) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,893) remain to be verified.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 25, 2026, the junta killed (154) women in total across the country, including (23) women above the age of 65. The oldest recorded death was a ninety-year-old woman. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities, with (39) women killed, followed by (38) in Bago Region. Meanwhile, (105) women were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (67) women, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.


On March 4, junta forces from the Northwestern Command Headquarters (Na Ma Kha) in Monywa Township conducted an aerial bombing using paramotors on villages in Pale Township, Sagaing Region. Some bombs exploded in Ma Yoe Tone Village and five civilians, including elderly women Mi Kyi and San Aye, were killed by the bomb shrapnel.
