Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,843) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,538) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,818) are currently in detention, (11,577) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
On March 2, 2026, the junta announced the release of (7,337) prisoners who had been imprisoned under Section 50 (j) and Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law in various prisons and police stations across the country. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has been monitoring and documenting the release of political prisoners included in this release list. According to the information gathered up until 4 p.m. today, around (246) political prisoners have been released from (9) prisons. (104) out of the (246) individuals have been confirmed by name. Since the coup, a total of (2,235) people have died after being arrested by the junta. This number includes (197) people who have died in Burma’s prisons.
According to observations made by AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, on February 27, junta forces launched an offensive near Son Sin Hpyar Village, Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, and shot and killed seven locals. In addition, on March 1, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing on a truck stop near Pyaung Village, Mindon Township, Magway Region, killing more than 20 civilians and injuring many others.
