Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,807) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,503) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,803) are currently in detention, (11,556) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to February 20, 2026, the junta killed (157) people in total across the country; (76) women and (81) men, including (22) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among these deaths, Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (41), followed by (27) in Magway. Among the (157) deceased, (114) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period, AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (112) civilians, as a result of the junta’s attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
During the stated period, the junta arrested (14) people in relation to the Spring Revolution across the country: (4) women and (10) men. Among them, (8) people were arrested in Yangon Region, recording the highest number of arrests.
Myat Thu Kyaw and his wife Moe Thapyay, residents of Dagon Myothit (East) Township, Yangon Region, were arrested by junta forces on January 15, 2026, and accused of disrupting and destroying election campaign signboards. They were charged under Section 24(a) of the Protection of Elections Law, allegedly in connection with interference in the election campaign process.
