Date – 16 February 2026
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,799) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,468) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,774) are currently in detention, (11,525) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
In Sittwe Prison, Rakhine State, some prisoners, including two political prisoners who demanded their rights as inmates, were put in solitary confinement. Meanwhile, in Magway Prison, Magway Region, prison staff have been torturing political prisoners, forcing them to work, and neglecting to provide adequate medical care.
In addition, the junta’s targeted attacks on civilians have become increasingly severe. According to ground reports, since the end of January 2026, junta forces have launched offensives into villages in Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, burning down around ten villages, raping four women from Min Village and Mya Wa Di Village, and forcing tens of thousands of people in the area to flee for safety.
In the past week, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has documented the deaths of around (33) civilians as a result of the junta’s actions.
