Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,738) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,371) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,778) are currently in detention, (11,511) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
While monitoring the junta’s human rights violations, it was found that around (147) civilians were killed as a result of heavy weaponry fire and airstrikes targeting civilians. On January 26, three civilians, including a child, were killed when heavy weaponry was fired into villages in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, despite no clashes occurring. On January 29, eight civilians, including a child, were killed when an airstrike was carried out on Lay Bo Village, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region.
In addition, the junta has been deliberately targeting buildings that are not military targets. On January 28, junta forces entered Ma Gyi Kone Village, Chauk Township, Magway Region, and burned down houses, destroying almost the entire village. According to reports from the ground, on January 29, they conducted a drone bombing on a school in Phoe Wa Thein Village, Bilin Township, Mon State, damaging school buildings.
