Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,677) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,259) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,706) are currently in detention, (11,453) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
In Dawei Prison, Tanintharyi Region, inmates have been suffering from skin diseases due to a lack of adequate water for bathing. The rate of infection has been increasing because of insufficient health care. According to the wife of a political prisoner, her husband had a skin disease all over his body and had to apply medicine to his entire body. She had to purchase the medicine from outside to send to him. She noted that the initial condition did not last this long, but has not fully healed and now continues to resurface.
The junta has been launching military offensives into several townships in Sagaing Region. In the first week of January, five women were gang-raped in Min Ywar Taung Village and In Daung Village in Wetlet Township. On January 11, during the second phase of the sham election, drone strikes were carried out in Khin-U Township and Ayadaw Township in Sagaing Region, and howitzers were indiscriminately fired into civilian areas. On the same day, according to reports from the ground, a school in Mu Kan Gyi Village in Tabayin Township, was hit by an airstrike, causing damage to the school building. What’s more, the junta and its affiliates were forcibly abducting young people in Mandalay and Yangon Regions, as well as Mon State, extorting money from them and threatening them with military conscription if they did not vote in the sham elections.
