Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,675) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,253) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,705) are currently in detention, (11,449) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to 9, 2026, a total of (21) people; (10) women and (11) men, were killed by the junta’s airstrikes across the country, including (7) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the (21) deaths, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities with (15) victims. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (18) civilians, as a result of the junta’s airstrikes, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On January 6, at approximately 10 a.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using high-explosive bombs into Pauk Kan Bu Tar Village, Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region. The resulting bomb shrapnel killed four people: Mya, Tin Tin Htay, Thin Kyaing and five-month-old Shin Khant Kyaw.
