Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,636) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,212) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,678) are currently in detention, (11,429) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
The junta has been conducting a sham election beginning on December 28, while simultaneously targeting civilians in some townships in Sagaing Region, Magway Region, and Kayah State through ground offensives, heavy weaponry fire, and airstrikes. Monywa, Budalin, Shwebo, and Ayadaw Townships in Sagaing Region were attacked with heavy weaponry and airstrikes. Meanwhile, clashes in some townships in Magway Region have also been intense, and the junta has been carrying out airstrikes in addition to ground offensives. Junta forces also fired heavy weaponry at villages in the eastern part of Loikaw Township, Kayah State, killing a local resident.
In addition, junta forces arrested two women for allegedly bringing a phone into a polling station in Thaton Township, Mon State. Some young men were also arrested for taking photos with their phones at polling stations in Chanayethazan and Aungmyaythazan Townships, Mandalay Region, according to reports on the ground.
