Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup


Date – 9 December 2025


Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,564) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 


Since the coup, a total of (30,099) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,685) are currently in detention, (11,419) of whom are serving sentences. 


According to the latest information gathered and confirmed by AAPP, (120) people have been arrested under the Election Protection Law, among whom (84) individuals have not yet been identified. 


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


According to the data collected by AAPP, from October 1 to December 9, 2025, (78) people in total; (20) women and (58) men, were killed by the junta in Sagaing Region, including (18) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (62) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (89) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.


On December 7, at approximately 2 p.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing onto Thone Myay Hson Gold Mining Site near Tone Pin Village, Banmauk Township, Sagaing Region. The bomb shrapnel killed a guard named Nyein.
