CRPH welcomes president U Win Myint’s reunion with family

The Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) announced on 20 April that it shares the public’s joy following the release of President U Win Myint, who had been unjustly detained by the military junta for more than five years, and confirmed he was reunited with his family on 17 April.

The statement reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to stand firmly with the people and to pursue its core political objectives set on 5 March 2021.

The CRPH stated that its political goals include the permanent dismantling of military rule, the release of all individuals unjustly detained including President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, the restoration of democracy, and the abolition of the 2008 Constitution in favour of a new federal-based charter.

The committee also emphasized that the ongoing Spring Revolution presents an opportunity to establish a new federal democratic state that guarantees the rights of all citizens, stressing that unity and cooperation among revolutionary forces are crucial to achieving this goal.

The CRPH said it is actively participating in the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF) and remains committed to working with political, ethnic, and revolutionary forces to dismantle military rule and establish a federal democratic state.

Similarly, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) issued a message on 17 April welcoming President U Win Myint following his release from arbitrary detention, while the National Unity Government (NUG) said in a statement on 18 April that his reunion with his family reflected a broader victory for the people’s revolution driven by sustained domestic and international pressure.
