A new investigation by the Centre for Ah Nyar Studies has documented what it describes as a major military operation by Myanmar junta forces in Myaing Township and neighbouring areas of Pauk Township, Magway Region, between late June and early August 2026.

The report says at least 38 civilians were killed, 15 injured and at least 370 homes burned during operations attributed to troops from Light Infantry Divisions 101 and 99.

The investigation was based on interviews with 11 people, on-site observations, photographs, videos, casualty and property-destruction records, and information from local early-warning and flight-spotter networks.

According to the investigation, the Myanmar junta military column began its offensive around 24 June, advancing through villages in an area where resistance forces exercise significant territorial control. Researchers estimated that the operation involved about 1,000 soldiers and verified raids on at least 27 villages between 23 June and 2 August.

The offensive combined ground operations with artillery and extensive air attacks, including fighter aircraft and gyrocopters. At least nine villages were subjected to aerial attacks, while local reporting cited by the investigation indicated that the military column carried out at least 200 aerial attacks during the final ten days of July.
