China Hails Myanmar Junta’s ‘Steady and Orderly’ Election

China has congratulated the Myanmar junta on the recently completed election, saying Beijing is now ready to deepen cooperation with the pariah regime even further.

“China congratulated Myanmar on a steady and orderly general election with active turnout,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.

Asked if the election would provide a basis for deeper engagement, he replied: “China stands ready to continue deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperation with Myanmar.”
