At least 20 civilians were injured when the Myanmar junta air force carried out airstrikes on villages in the western part of Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, on 10 November, according to local sources.
The attacks began at around 3:20 pm and were conducted by four jet fighters targeting Kyun Taw Lay, Sat Pyar Kyin, and Bote villages, residents said.
“There was a crowd gathered at ceremony to hoist golden umbrella (Hti) on a pagoda in the village. The jets came and attacked that gathering. Four fighter jets bombed and fired rockets continuously. Seven people were seriously injured,” said a local monk from Depayin Township.
The three villages are located close to one another. The airstrikes left seven people seriously wounded and 13 others with minor injuries, while several houses were damaged, according to residents.
Mizzima has not been able to independently verify the number of casualties or the extent of the damage.
Earlier this year, on 12 May, a junta airstrike on a school in Ohteindwin village in the same township killed 21 students and two teachers.
