At least 10 civilians killed in airstrike on Kyauk Gyi village, Thandwe

At least 10 civilians were killed and eight others injured in the afternoon of 10 August when the military junta carried out an airstrike on Kyauk Gyi village in Thandwe Township, Rakhine State, according to the Arakan Army (AA)’s information department.

According to the AA’s statement, a fighter jet circled over Kyauk Gyi village for about 20 minutes at around 1:00 PM on 10 August and dropped three high-explosive bombs.

The AA stated that the bombs exploded near Dhamma Yaung Chi monastery in Kyauk Gyi village, causing civilian casualties, while two people remain missing.

The airstrike also damaged around 20 nearby houses and buildings, the statement added.

The AA said it would release a detailed list of casualties from the Kyauk Gyi village airstrike and urged local residents to remain vigilant against the threat of air and naval attacks.

On 3 August, military junta forces also dropped bombs using fighter jets near residential homes in Ward 9 of Jittaw, Ngapali town, Thandwe Township, according to the AA.

Furthermore, the AA stated that airstrikes were conducted on villages in Thandwe Township on 19, 23, 24, 27, and 31 of July, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings.
