A week after the official election campaign period kicked off on Oct. 28, only candidates from the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) are holding campaign activities on the ground, said residents of Myanmar’s second largest city, Mandalay.
The first official day of campaigning saw the USDP hold events nationwide—including at its Naypyitaw headquarters—raising party banners and promoting its slogan, “Stronger Myanmar.”
A Mandalay resident said locals had no interest in the election organized by the junta.
