Army Drone Strike Injures Monk and Child in Ramree Township

A Buddhist monk and a child were injured after the Myanmar military launched a drone strike on a monastery in Ramthit Gyi (lower village), Ramree Township, without any prior fighting.

Ramree Township is one of 15 townships in Rakhine State administered by the Arakan Army. It is adjacent to Kyaukphyu, an area seeing sustained, fierce conflict.

A local villager recounted: “Today, while the abbot was eating lunch, the army dropped a bomb via drone onto the monastery, injuring the monk. A youth at the monastery was also injured.”

Both the monk and the boy were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Military sources stated the bomb was released precisely while the monk was having his midday meal. Narinjara continues to investigate this incident and will report further updates.

Meanwhile, intense battles are raging between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army near the military’s Taung Maw Oo Naval Base in southern Maday Island. Maday Island is a major Chinese project housing an oil tanker port and crucial oil and gas pipelines that export energy to Yunnan province.

Reports from the area indicate the Myanmar military is suffering heavy casualties and is relying on aerial bombardments and naval warships to support its ground troops.
