It is reported that the Arakkha Health Department, under the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government, provided free eye surgeries for the second time during the third week of May 2026 to those suffering from eye diseases among the war-displaced people in Arakan State.

The Arakkha Health Department examined and treated 223 patients suffering from eye conditions among the displaced population using eye testing equipment.

According to an official from the Arakkha Health Department, among these patients, a total of 59 individuals received free eye surgery, including 33 patients with cataracts, 5 patients with pterygium (surfer's eye), and 21 individuals who required prescription glasses.

According to statements from war-displaced people who underwent the eye surgeries, the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government took full responsibility for providing accommodation, food, medicine, and transportation costs throughout the treatment process.

Furthermore, the displaced people stated that the central Arakkha Health Department arranged all expenses incurred during the eye surgeries free of charge.

One recipient of the eye surgery expressed special pride, respect, and gratitude for the Arakkha Health Department's comprehensive efforts to provide health services, including such eye surgeries, during a time of war when many difficulties are being faced.

It is reported that previously, the Arakkha Health Department did not have mobile medical programs providing such on-site treatments. Instead, they provided free treatment only at designated centers, connecting poor people and war-displaced individuals who lacked access to nearby health services through administrative departments.

According to the Arakkha Health Department, they will continue to implement and provide treatment programs, using their own funds, for people who cannot be treated or operated on by eye doctors in areas where displaced people reside and other areas of need.

In the first week of April, the department treated approximately 200 eye disease patients among war-displaced people in the Arakan region, providing free eye surgery to 27 of them as the first round.

It is also reported that the Arakkha Health Department has been consistently and diligently carrying out not only eye surgery procedures but also vaccinations, timely maternal healthcare, disease prevention and control activities, basic medical treatment, and general disease treatment up to the present day.
