The military regime must be held accountable for launching aerial bombardments targeting the Kissapanadi Bridge and India Market in Kyauktaw Town, Arakan State, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) stated on September 29.

Junta forces dropped at least two bombs on India Market in Kyauktaw Town, with victims including vendors, shoppers, and local pedestrians, APHR said.

“Lacking territorial control on the ground, the military regime relies heavily on airstrikes and drone attacks targeting densely populated areas across the country,” said Mercy Chriesty Barends, an Indonesian MP and Chairperson of APHR. “Min Aung Hlaing and the military regime must stop committing crimes against humanity, and the Myanmar junta must be held fully accountable.”

APHR noted that the Kyauktaw aerial bombardment represents the latest in an ongoing pattern of systematic military attacks against civilian populations.

Previously, on September 12, 2025, a military airstrike targeting two schools in

Kyauktaw Township killed around 20 students, according to APHR figures.

In addition, an aerial attack in December 2025 targeting Mrauk-U Hospital killed at least 33 people, including patients, caregivers, and medical staff.

Regarding the Kyauktaw attack, APHR called on ASEAN and the Philippines, which will serve as the incoming ASEAN Chair, to prohibit political representatives of the military regime from attending the 49th ASEAN Summit in Manila this coming November as long as airstrikes and attacks on civilians persist.

APHR further urged authorities to allow unimpeded access for humanitarian and medical aid to reach airstrike survivors across Arakan State.
