Aerial cable repairs in Myinmu restore power to towns in Sagaing and Magway regions

The damaged overhead power line in Myinmu Township has been repaired, and towns in Sagaing and Magway regions have been able to resume power supply since 2 pm on January 9, according to sources.

A power line connecting Ohn Taw (Sagaing) and Nyaungpingyi Substation was blown up on the morning of December 28, 2025, causing long-term power outages in Monywa, Shwebo, and Pakokku districts.

“The information is updated on January 9. The damaged pole has been repaired thanks to the cooperation of all parties involved. The pole that was damaged due to the speed of the fall has been inspected and repaired, and power will be restored. It is estimated that power will be restored no later than January 11,” an official from the Pakokku Township Electricity Distribution Office wrote on social media.

“I think the electricity will be restored around Saturday. Now we have electricity back on Friday afternoon. The power is on at the substation. I heard that power is being supplied to the town in sections. If everyone uses it, I think there will be a power surge and a shock,” said a Pakokku resident.

Since the power supply was returned earlier than originally expected, power is being supplied to each ward in order to control power consumption.

“We need electricity quickly. When we receive electricity, it is provided by the Pakokku sub-power station. We have not had electricity for about two weeks. Diesel and gasoline are also not easy to buy, so it is very difficult,” said a resident of Yesagyo.

During the power outage, people are facing many difficulties as they have to spend more money to get water and lights in night.
