Intense fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar military on May 29 and 30 near the Taung Maw U Naval Base has left over 30 junta soldiers dead and resulted in the seizure of a large cache of ammunition.

The naval base is a critical security post guarding major Chinese oil and gas projects on Made Island in Kyaukphyu Township.

"The fighting was heavy over those two days, and the conflict is far from over," an Arakan Army military source told Narinjara on Sunday evening.

"We have recovered more than 30 bodies of junta soldiers alongside a vast amount of ammunition. Our forces also sustained casualties, though significantly fewer than the junta's."

The source added that while bad weather paused active combat on Sunday morning, clashes could resume at any moment. The recent flare-up is a counter-offensive by the AA.

Since May 10, the Myanmar military has targeted Sane, a town in Kyaukphyu Township currently under AA administrative control.

regime deployed a tactical offensive force of more than 440 troops drawn from the 11th Division, specifically the 212th, 213th, and 219th Infantry Regiments.

According to military sources, AA troops successfully decimated two of the junta’s forward lines, which consisted of more than 100 soldiers.

Facing heavy losses, the surviving regime forces abandoned their dead and ammunition, relying on air support to retreat toward the Taungmaw U (a) Taungmaw Gyi naval bases.

Despite the military utilizing both air and naval artillery bombardment to reclaim Sane, fierce resistance from AA fighters has pushed the frontlines to the doorstep of the Taung Maw U base itself.

The AA military source noted that documentation of the captured weapons and recovered bodies is underway, and official photo and video evidence will be released soon.
