A statement issued by the Arakan Army (AA) reveals that a military bombing attack on Kyauktaw town in Rakhine (Arakan) State has resulted in the deaths of 49 innocent civilians and injuries to nearly 60 others.
According to the report, a military junta jet fighter carried out deliberate airstrikes, September 28, 2026, between 12:10 PM and 12:14 PM. The strikes targeted highly populated areas where local civilians were active, specifically near the "India Market" and the Kissapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw.
The airstrike on the India Market area caused a mass casualty event, killing 49 civilians, including shoppers, passersby, and cargo laborers, and wounding at least 58 individuals.
Clashes between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army are currently ongoing across at least seven active fronts, with heavy fighting reported daily in several areas.
The AA stated that the military is resorting to targeted aerial bombings of Rakhine civilians due to severe battlefield losses and its failure to break through the AA's defensive and counter-offensive lines.
U Wai Hin Aung, a local humanitarian worker operating in the Rakhine State conflict zones, also confirmed the casualties in a social media post, stating that the death toll has reached 49, with approximately 60 others injured.
