AA reports civilian deaths and injuries in junta’s airstrikes

The Arakan Army’s press and information service reported on 19 April that Myanmar military junta’s airstrikes on civilian areas in the Rakhine region resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to 13 others including monks.
A jet fighter from the Myanmar air forces bombed Nghat Gyi Kyunt village under Ponnagyun township at around 12 noon on 19 April killing the innocent civilian.
Earlier at 10 am and 12:30 pm, the junta’s air forces conducted two separate airstrikes on Kyaukse Pyin monastery of Kyaukse Pyin village under Mrauk-U township using a jet fighter.
The attack injured 13 civilians including some studying monks and caused significant destruction to the monastery and nearby religious buildings and other houses. Several livestock, including five cows and one goat, were also killed and injured in the attack.
Earlier on 19 April, the junta launched seven consecutive airstrikes using three jet fighters between 10 am and 10:30 pm.
Their targets included the former border area ethnic youth development training school in Ye Phyukan village under Ponnagyun township as well as old village quarters and a local power station.
After the attack, the power plant caught fire and it destroyed six houses in old village areas injuring another civilian.
The AA stated that the military council had conducted a series of airstrikes on 19 April over civilian areas comprising schools, hospitals, clinics, power plants, and religious buildings in Ponnagyun and Mrauk-U townships.
It also reported that the junta simultaneously targeted civilian areas in Kyauktaw and Paletwa townships using five jet fighters and two Y-12 transport planes.
Earlier Narinjara News reported that the Kyauk Si Pyin monastery strike was a part of the Sunday offensive with relief workers confirming injuries to three monks, eight men, and two women.
