Arakan Army (AA) Commander-in-Chief General Twan Mrat Naing has credited the group’s recent military successes to overwhelming popular support and the exceptional bravery and skill of his soldiers.

In an interview with The Diplomat’s Indian correspondent, Rajeev Bhattacharyya, conducted within Rakhine State, the General detailed the strategic factors driving the AA’s momentum.

Beyond military prowess, he emphasized that rebuilding trust among the diverse ethnic and religious communities of Rakhine State has been a cornerstone of their progress.

General Twan Mrat Naing noted that the organization’s success stems from meticulous preparation and the dedication of loyal personnel working toward a unified goal. Despite these gains, however, he maintains a cautious outlook.

“We have achieved significant successes, but we have not yet reached a final breakthrough,” he stated. “We must continue to manage our limited resources systematically and move forward with patience.”

Addressing the political landscape, the General asserted that meaningful dialogue remains nearly impossible while the Myanmar military continues its campaign of airstrikes against civilian populations.

He claimed the junta seeks to negotiate only from a position of tactical advantage, a pressure tactic he insisted the AA would not yield to.

Regarding international relations, Twan Mrat Naing highlighted the need for neighboring Bangladesh to recognize the Rakhine People’s Revolutionary Government. He argued that such formal recognition is essential for fostering a stable environment and effective bilateral cooperation.

Concluding the interview, General Twan Mrat Naing expressed a desire for a swift end to the people's suffering and the establishment of a lasting political solution.
