Urgent need for shelter and healthcare in Myanmar’s earthquake-hit regions

In areas affected by the earthquake, including Mandalay, Sagaing, and Naypyidaw, numerous homes and buildings have collapsed or suffered cracks, forcing many residents to live on roads and in open fields. Emergency shelter and protection from the elements are urgently needed.

As of 1 April, those who evacuated their homes following the earthquake on the afternoon of 28 March remain without proper shelter. Both victims and aid workers express serious concerns about potential health problems arising from living exposed to the intense heat, day and night.

“We are also living on the streets. We are feeling miserable. The sun is too hot. The fear of another earthquake is overwhelming,” a Sagaing resident said.
