Two Military Junta Naval Vessels Attacked on Kaladan River and Reported Sunk
Narinjara, October 27, 2026
A military source close to the Arakan Army (AA) informed Narinjara that the AA launched an attack on three naval vessels belonging to the military junta.
The ships were anchored on the Kaladan River between Sittwe and Wirathani (Pauktaw) in Arakan State, resulting in two of them sustaining severe damage and reportedly sinking. The third vessel was also damaged.
The attack took place on the evening of October 26, the night of the full moon marking the end of the Buddhist Lent (Wa Kyut). When Narinjara contacted the ULA/AA for confirmation, AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha verified the incident.
"Yesterday, on the night of the Thadingyut Full Moon, a naval operation was successfully carried out. This marks a significant step forward in naval combat capabilities. I would like to extend my congratulations to all the specialists, officers, and personnel who successfully executed this operation," U Khaing Thukha said.
The three vessels included a frigate. These ships belonged to a naval group tasked with securing Sittwe and providing heavy artillery support to Ngapyi Island.
Some residents of Sittwe reported seeing flames and fireballs erupting from the Kaladan River that night, accompanied by the sound of explosions. "That night, we saw explosions on the Kaladan River, followed by flames and fireballs shooting up as high as the tops of coconut trees," one resident said.
Reports from the direction of Wirathani also confirmed that explosions were heard, with flames and fireballs reaching heights of approximately 40 to 60 feet. Following the escalation of these attacks, it is reported that the naval flotilla, typically a common sight on the Kaladan River, has not been seen there since this morning.
