Two Kyaukphyu's IDPs injured in junta drone attack

Narinjara News, 23 January 2026

In Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, a drone strike carried out by junta forces resulted in injuries to two local IDPs.

The individuals wounded are U Min Thet Htun, age 30, and Ma Pan Ei San, age 24, both hailing from Kon Baun Gyi Village, Kyaukphyu Township.

According to local sources, at noon today, January 22, a drone operated by the junta forces released a bomb close to the Shwe Rakhine Bus Terminal along the Kyaukphyu-Rangoon Highway, near Zin Chaung Khon Bwe Village, within Kyaukphyu Township.

A resident recounted that U Min Thet Htun suffered injuries to his left eye and Ma Pan Ei San was hurt in her right knee as they were near the bus terminal.

"It appears the drone was launched from the Tai Chaung area where the junta troops are stationed. It couldn’t have been from the junta Navy. There were no clashes between the junta and AA in that area; only civilians were present. The junta forces aimed specifically at civilians," he reported.

Additionally, a house in Zin Chaung Khon Bwe village was slightly damaged during the attack.

On the evening of January 17, the junta Air Force targeted an IDP camp close to Kyauk Ka Lay village in Kyaukphyu Township using a fighter jet, resulting in the deaths of three individuals: Daw Ma San Shwe, aged 54; her 90-year-old mother, Daw Aung Myat Nu; and Daw Khin San Oo, aged 40, along with injuries to two other IDPs.

On January 20, at approximately 7:25 pm, two junta jet fighters dropped four 300-pound bombs on the Chaung Tu detention facility of the AA situated in Kyauktaw Township, leading to the deaths of 21 prisoners of war and injuring 30 others.
