The Burmese military has carried out daily airstrikes targeting IDP camps housing civilians in Ponnagyun Township. On October 5, local sources reported that two women, including a Grade 12 student, were killed and two other internally displaced persons (IDPs) were injured in the latest attacks.
The assault involved repeated aerial bombings of Ponnagyun Township’s Pan Nilar IDP camp. It occurred just one day after a separate airstrike on the Byar La IDP camp left six people dead from severe burns.
According to local reports, the military resumed its bombing campaign at around 9:20 AM on October 5, dropping more than ten bombs on the Pan Nilar village IDP camp where displaced civilians were sheltering.
One of the deceased was identified as Ma Khin Thazin Moe, a Grade 12 student and the daughter of U Win Maung Thein. She sustained severe head injuries during the bombing and passed away while receiving emergency medical care.
A relative close to the family confirmed to Narinjara that she died at approximately 3:30 PM.
"She has passed away. It is a truly tragic event," the relative said. "I do not understand why they specifically target civilian areas for aerial bombing. I earnestly appeal to the international community to put a stop to these unjust actions."
The second fatality was Daw Hla May Thein, 54, an IDP who was killed instantly during the bombardment. Additionally, Ma Sandar Soe, 14, and U Nyi Chay, 52, sustained injuries.
During the raid, military aircraft also dropped bombs on the private "Setana" clinic located near the Pan Nilar IDP camp. Although the clinic was closed at the time and no casualties were reported there, the facility was completely destroyed.
Separately, details emerged regarding an attack yesterday, October 4. Shortly after 5:00 PM, the military regime conducted an airstrike on the Byar La IDP camp in Ponnagyun Township, killing six displaced persons and injuring more than ten others.
Recent documentation indicates that the Burmese military has killed over 70 civilians within the past week alone through targeted aerial attacks on non-military infrastructure and civilian communities.
