Tortured political prisoners denied medical treatment at Magway Prison

Hundreds of political prisoners detained at Magway Prison in central Myanmar have been denied medical treatment after being beaten and tortured by prison authorities, according to reports.

On April 13, fighting erupted outside the prison after members of a local resistance group attacked junta soldiers stationed there. Two political prisoners died during the clash and at least five others were injured.

After the incident, other political detainees at the prison were accused of assisting the resistance fighters in their attack. As a result, around 400 were beaten and tortured, including several who suffered gunshot wounds, according to a statement released by the Political Prisoners Network-Myanmar (PPNM) on Tuesday.
