Three Russian naval ships have docked in Yangon to engage in joint military drills with the Myanmar Navy.

On the evening of November 10, three naval vessels, which are the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchiy, and the support ship Boris Butoma, reached Thilawa Port in Yangon.

This is the third occasion on which three warships from the Russian Pacific Fleet have come to Yangon for joint military exercises with the Myanmar Navy.

The Myanmar Navy is set to carry out a five-day military drill in the waters to the west of Myeik in the northern Andaman Sea from November 10 to 14, which will involve the participation of Russian warships.

The activity will include naval, aerial, and land forces. The military government announced that the firing exercises for underwater weapons will occur in a zone measuring 60 nautical miles, with the exercise area starting 10 miles to the west of Kabuza Island.

The three Russian warships were welcomed by Vice Admiral Aleksei Anatolievich Kilashko, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, who is presently in Myanmar for an official visit. He was accompanied by the Russian military attaché to Myanmar, high-ranking officers, soldiers, and officials from the Myanmar Navy.

A statement from the Ministry of Information of the Myanmar regime said, “The Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet has sent the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchiy, and the support vessel Boris Butoma to Myanmar for the third Myanmar-Russia maritime security drill and a goodwill visit. ”
