Three Locals Fishing by Boat in Myebon Township Detained and Beaten by Myanmar Military Navy
Three local fishermen, including a boat owner, who went out fishing by boat in Myebon Township, Arakan(Rakhine) State, were detained and tortured by the Myanmar military navy (Navy).
Those detained and beaten are identified as boat owner U Kyaw Thun Tha, 53, his son Ko Zaw Zaw Thun, 26, and hired boat hand Ko Aung Min Thein, 28, all residents of Kyun Thar Yar Village in Myebon Township.
The incident occurred on October 2, around 4:00 PM, near Hna Khaung Pauk Myauk Phyu Island and Tattaikpwin. As they were preparing to return home after fishing, a military council naval vessel arrived and detained the three men.
Thereafter, military council personnel questioned boat owner U Kyaw Thun Tha about his address, ordered him onto the naval vessel, made him lie face down, and struck him on the buttocks and calves no fewer than five times with a stick over two feet long.
Similarly, Ko Zaw Zaw Thun and Ko Aung Min Thein, who were with him, were also beaten during interrogation. Military personnel further questioned them regarding whether Arakan Army (AA) forces were present in Kyun Thar Yar Village.
Due to the severe beating and torture by the military council forces, boat owner U Kyaw Thun Tha sustained serious injuries, leaving him unable to sit or stand properly and bedridden. Ko Zaw Zaw Thun and Ko Aung Min Thein, the latter of whom suffered injuries to his right leg, are also moving around with visible injuries.
Earlier on September 8, another resident from Kyun Thar Yar Village, U Myint Thun Win, who had gone out fishing, was detained by military council forces, and his whereabouts remain unknown to this day.
