Three Elderly Civilians Killed in Recent Myanmar Military Airstrikes Across Arakan State
Narinjara, September 11, 2026
At least three civilians over the age of 60 were killed and three others injured following a series of airstrikes launched by the Myanmar military across three townships in Arakan (Rakhine) State over a 48-hour period.
The aerial bombardments targeted Ponnagyun, Taungup, and Gwa townships, which have recently become primary focal points for the military regime's air campaigns.
The deceased have been identified as Daw Hla Than Yi (67), a displaced person sheltering in Ponnagyun Township; U Tin Maung (60) from Taungup Township; and U Oo Kyaw Khine (81) from Gwa Township.
In Ponnagyun Township, Daw Hla Than Yi, a displaced woman sheltering in Kyauk Seik village, was killed instantly by shrapnel during a military drone attack at approximately 12:30 AM on September 11. Her daughter, Ma Oo Than Khin, sustained severe injuries in the same blast.
Later that afternoon, just after 4:00 PM on September 11, two military jet fighters bombed an area situated between Ywar Thit Kay and Wae Gyi Ywar Thit villages in Taungup Township. The attack resulted in the death of U Tin Maung (60) and left73-year-old U Min Swe injured. A local livestock animal was also killed in the strike.
Additionally, Ward No. 1 in Kyeintali town, Gwa Township, was subjected to two consecutive aerial attacks on the night of September 10, occurring at 9:41 PM and 9:46 PM.
U Oo Kyaw Khine (81) died instantly at the scene after being struck by shrapnel. Another resident, 49-year-old U Chit San Maung (also known as Chit Pu), suffered injuries and is currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
In light of the escalating aerial campaigns, the Arakan Army (AA) issued a statement urging the public to exercise extreme caution regarding ongoing threats from air, naval, and heavy artillery attacks.
The AA accused the military regime of deliberately targeting civilian-populated towns, villages, and neighborhoods due to its inability to match opposition forces in ground combat, allegations that align with broader international accusations of war crimes leveled against the junta.
