The Voice of Independent Myanmar begins broadcasting

Mizzima Media, one of Myanmar’s independent media organizations, and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) are jointly launching a new shortwave radio service, “Voice of Independent Myanmar (VIM)”.

The shortwave radio programme aims to provide people across Myanmar with free access to independent, accurate and reliable news and information, including communities living in areas where information is restricted or controlled by the Myanmar military regime.

🗓️ Launch date: 9 August 2026 (Mizzima’s 28th anniversary)

⏰ Broadcast time: Every Sunday 7:00 am–8:00 am Myanmar Standard Time (60-minute programme)

📡 Frequency: SW 16m, 17665 KHz / 17.665 MHz

Anyone with a shortwave radio receiver can listen to the programme free of charge.

Programme Content

The weekly programme will focus on Myanmar news, and include features on China and Taiwan, a weekly special programme, media programme, public service programme, and a counter disinformation programme.
