A devastating wave of military violence has left 35 civilians dead and 79 injured over a five-week period in Rakhine State, according to a recent report released by the Arakan State Emergency Assistance and Relief Organization (ARE).

The documented casualties spanned from August 1 to September 7, 2026, primarily impacting residents across the Gwa, Paletwa, Rathedaung, and Maungdaw townships.

ARE reported that the deaths and injuries were the direct result of relentless military actions, including coordinated airstrikes, artillery fire from warships, drone bombardments, and the detonation of remnants of war.

The findings reveal a harrowing demographic breakdown, demonstrating that the violence spared no age group. An official list from ARE details the demographics of the casualties, which include 35 dead and 79 injured.

Of the 35 fatalities, there was one boy under 5; eight children aged 5 to 18 (five boys and three girls); 16 adults aged 18 to 60 (five men and 11 women); and 10 seniors over 60 (one man and nine women).

The 79 injured individuals included four children under 5 (three boys and one girl); 31 children aged 5 to 18 (18 boys and 13 girls); 33 adults aged 18 to 60 (14 men and 19 women); and 11 seniors over 60 (five men and six women).

ARE clarified that these figures only represent casualties that could be verified under highly restrictive conditions. Because the data was gathered "as far as possible" amid ongoing hostilities, the actual number of civilian victims is expected to be significantly higher.

In its statement, the relief organization emphasized that the loss of these individuals represents an "irreplaceable loss" to their families and local communities.

Expressing profound grief for the victims, ARE pledged to maintain its presence on the ground, standing firmly with the affected populations and continuing its efforts to provide emergency assistance to alleviate their hardships.
