The European Union (EU) and the UK Government Condemn Airstrike on Kyauktaw Market in Rakhine State
Narinjara, October 1, 2026
The European Union (EU) and the UK government have issued statements strongly condemning the Myanmar military's recent air attack on Kyauktaw Market in Arakan (Rakhine) State.
The strike, which took place on September 28, killed 50 people and injured 57 others.
On October 30, the EU released an official statement titled "Myanmar: Statement by the Spokesperson on the airstrike at Kyauktaw Market."
In the release, the spokesperson noted:"The EU condemns the airstrike by Myanmar's Armed Forces on Kyauktaw market on Monday, resulting in the death and injuries of a significant number of civilians. International Humanitarian Law is universal and must be respected. We express our solidarity with victims and families, and continue to stand with the people of Myanmar."

Concurrently, the British government strongly denounced the bombing as a heinous attack.
Baroness Winterton, the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, stated:"I am appalled by the reports of a military airstrike on a market in Kyauktaw, Rakhine, which has resulted in a significant loss of life. Attacks on civilians are utterly unacceptable, and the UK condemns this devastating attack. We stand with the people of Myanmar. The UK is clear: all civilians must be protected and airstrikes must stop."

The double bombardment occurred around midday on September 28, when a Myanmar military aircraft targeted the crowded "Indian Market" and the adjacent Kissapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw town.
The dead included market vendors, shoppers, and a pregnant woman. It stands as the deadliest single airstrike in Rakhine State since the conflict escalated.
