Nine houses in Mae Sot district of Thailand’s Tak province have been damaged by shrapnel and stray bullets after fresh fighting broke out between Myanmar troops and Karen National Union (KNU) forces.

The incidents have led to Thai Defense Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit announcing a seven-day closure of the Thai-Myanmar border checkpoint in Mae Sot.

A border source said on Wednesday that clashes broke out between the regime’s 22nd Military Division and the KNU’s Brigade 6 near Min Let Pan, a village in Myawaddy Township, opposite Huai Maha Wong and Mae Kon Ken villages in Thailand’s Tambon Mahawan.
