Myanmar’s military authorities are seeking Interpol Red Notices against exiled anti-regime activists, supporters and media organizations, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Major General Min Thu told parliament on 6 October, marking an escalation in the junta’s campaign to reach dissidents beyond Myanmar’s borders even as the regime faces mounting international condemnation over its deadly Kyauktaw market airstrike and a renewed call at the United Nations for its complete rejection.


Military Authorities Seek Interpol Red Notices Against Overseas Opponents


Major General Min Thu, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs under the military authorities, said they are working to obtain Red Notices from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) against anti-regime activists, supporters and media organizations based overseas, in addition to cases already filed against them inside Myanmar. He made the remarks while responding to a question from Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) MP Daw Than Than Aye during the 2026 Pyithu Hluttaw session held on 6 October, which had asked whether action would be taken against people abroad accused of undermining the country’s sovereignty and reputation.


Elderly Care Centre in Thailand Ordered Closed


Thai health authorities ordered the closure of an elderly care centre in Kanchanaburi Province after patients were found sleeping in beds enclosed by metal cages. Residents are being transferred, depending on their circumstances, to family members, qualified care facilities or government care programmes. Mae Fat, a former resident of the centre who helped expose its conditions through the television programme Hone Krasae, reportedly burst into tears and raised her hands in gratitude after learning the facility would be closed.


International Developments and Foreign Affairs


Yangon Region People’s Defence Force (3) entered a video competition with an entry titled “The Stonecutter’s Armour.” Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its warning on 6 October advising Taiwanese citizens to avoid high-risk areas in Myanmar because of continuing armed conflict and online scam operations; Lin Chia-hung, Director-General of the ministry’s Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said armed conflict continues in many parts of Myanmar and that the military authorities still do not effectively control some areas. Following the military’s airstrike on a market in Kyauktaw, Rakhine State, which has killed at least 50 people and injured another 58, Gregory W. Meeks, ranking member of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, strongly criticized the Trump administration’s foreign policy on 2 October, saying he was appalled by the attack and describing it as another reminder that Myanmar’s military disregards both international law and the safety of the people it claims to govern.


Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv early on 7 October, killing at least two people in the capital’s Darnytskyi district, according to Kyiv’s military administration; the attack coincided with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s 74th birthday.


Construction of the road connecting Paletwa in Chin State and Zorinpui in Mizoram, part of the India–Myanmar Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, is now 25 percent complete; Mizoram Governor, retired General Dr Vijay Kumar Singh, met officials from IRCON, the company responsible for construction, on 5 October and instructed them to accelerate the work.


A Liberian-flagged oil tanker was attacked by a naval drone near the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, causing a major fire; Russia’s Transport Ministry said all 23 Indian crew members aboard were rescued.


Amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that forces would be rapidly deployed to Saudi Arabia under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed by the three countries in August.


Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, called on the international community to completely reject the military authorities, hold perpetrators accountable and stand firmly with the people of Myanmar, during a meeting of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Issues Committee (Third Committee) at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York on 6 October.


Russia’s largest bank, Sber (PJSC Sberbank), and Myanmar’s Ministry of Planning and Finance signed an agreement to cooperate on direct payment systems, develop digital financial technologies and exchange regulatory experience.


Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told a cabinet meeting on 6 October that US President Donald Trump had said Thailand could soon sign a trade agreement with the United States, according to Thai PBS. Thai teenage rock singer Nene Royal will perform two or three songs as a special guest at a reception for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group, scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, 14 October, at the Santimaitri Building in Government House, according to government spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises.


The Hakka Public Communication Foundation (HPCF) and Indigenous Peoples Cultural Foundation (IPCF) have launched the “One Family Taiwan” mother-tongue learning programme to promote language equality; HPCF Chairman Sung Ting-tung said Taiwanese society should do more to encourage different ethnic groups to learn one another’s languages.


Domestic, Military and Labour Developments


A case involving fraudulent lottery claims reportedly occurred in Pyin Oo Lwin, a city widely known as a military stronghold. Around 7 million kyat (roughly US$2,260) was allegedly obtained fraudulently from three lottery shops: a woman claimed 5 million kyat (about US$1,610) from the Power lottery shop at Thiri Padaythar bus terminal on the evening of 3 October, and another 1 million kyat (about US$320) each from two other shops. She had reportedly bought two tickets for the 91st Aung Bar Lay lottery draw held on 1 October at a shop in Naypyidaw, and the fraud involved using counterfeit tickets to claim prizes against that draw.


Maung Myint, the military authorities’ new labour minister, complained in a TikTok post on 4 October that some workers sent abroad were not remitting money back to Myanmar, saying there was “no benefit in sending them” if they failed to do so; he said some overseas workers were not transferring the 25 percent remittance encouraged by the authorities. The Ministry of Commerce announced that online sales registration certificates do not authorize the online sale of gold or gold-containing products, citing the potential for instability in gold prices and the market.


Thai police seized counterfeit Pigeon-brand baby bottles and nipples, products widely used in Myanmar, during a raid on a logistics company in Bangkok’s Khlong Sam Wa district on 6 October; the counterfeit products had allegedly been imported and stored for online sale, and police plan to question the company’s director and others involved.


Technology, Education and Other Developments


In an ongoing cat-and-mouse contest over artificial intelligence in education, bacteriology professor Timothy Pastian has developed novel methods to identify student assignments written using chatbots, which have made academic cheating easier by generating plausible answers within seconds.


In work-weary Japan, self-described champion “sleep competitors” took part in a contest organized by a mattress company to see who could lie down, relax and fall into the deepest sleep most quickly, based on AFP’s report, “Sleep-deprived Japan holds best-rested competition.”


Assessment


Today’s reporting shows the junta extending its reach through Interpol to pursue overseas revolutionaries and media organizations, even as a wide range of domestic and international military, economic, legal and diplomatic developments continue to unfold around Myanmar’s crisis.
