Politics, Statements and Campaigns

According to the Women’s League of Burma (WLB), the Women for Peace Forum was held under the theme “Together for Peace, Equal Participation for All” from 16 to 18 September at an undisclosed location in Thailand, with participants joining both in person and online. A total of 144 women political leaders and civil society representatives attended.

The All In One Piece Movement announced the launch of its “Free Her” campaign, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Aung San Suu Kyi. The initiative follows the group’s earlier “Proof of Life” campaign seeking evidence that she is alive.

Military Developments, Fighting and Airstrikes

Kachin Independence Army (KIA) forces intercepted a military flotilla travelling up the Ayeyarwady River toward Bhamo. KIA Vice Chairman Lt-Gen Gun Maw said he regretted that as many as four privately owned vessels, which he said had been forcibly commandeered by the military, were destroyed in the attacks. The vessels were reportedly valued at between 800 million and 2 billion kyat.

Residents of Myit Chay in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, have been forced to flee after the military began carrying out airstrikes using gyrocopters and helicopters on 13 September despite no fighting being reported in the town. Numerous homes have reportedly been destroyed by fire.

Authorities in Mizoram State, India, ordered 46 households at Myanmar refugee camp No. 2 in Si Mual village to relocate within seven days.

The Royal Thai Navy deployed a special operations team and divers to search for five missing Myanmar workers following the sinking of the fishing vessel S. Kanchanawari 888 in Thai waters.
