Security Tightened After Resistance Blasts on Election Eve

A series of blasts from homemade rockets occurred in Mandalay the night before the first phase of the general election, injuring two civilians, according to a local rescue team.

Resistance group Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) claimed responsibility, saying it targeted the junta’s Central Regional Military Command with five rockets, four of which hit the target.

Mandalay Chief Minister Myo Aung said three rockets struck the Mandalay Fortress canal, where the command is located, and there were no casualties. “But one hit the town and injured two people,” he told reporters.
