School and House Damaged, Livestock Killed in Junta Airstrikes in Southern Rakhine State

The Myanmar military’s air force has reportedly conducted airstrikes on Kyauk Chun village in Gwa Township, an area located in southern Rakhine State that is currently controlled by the Arakan Army (AA).

Local villagers confirmed that the airstrikes were carried out in two successive waves late at night on June 14, first at 11:55 PM and again at 12:03 AM.

The bombardment of the civilian-inhabited village destroyed the Kyauk Chun village school and a residential home belonging to a local villager, U Tin Cho.

Additionally, a cowshed owned by U Kyaw San Aung collapsed during the attack, killing one cow.

According to local military observers, the military junta, frustrated by its failure to recapture territory from the Arakan Army, is intensifying its campaign in Gwa Township to achieve its strategic objectives, resulting in frequent retaliatory bombings of civilian villages in the area.

This attack follows a pattern of escalating violence in the region:

June 8: At approximately 9:05 AM, a military navy vessel positioned offshore fired at least 10 artillery shells into the vicinity of Kyeintali Town (referred to locally as Kyeintali Town in Gwa Township.

May 21: Two military fighter jets dropped approximately 10 bombs on Ward No. 2 of Kyeintali Town, injuring nine civilians.

May 20: Military fighter jets targeted Ward No. 1 of Kyeintali Town during the evening, damaging three houses.
