Scam Bosses Move Business Elsewhere Amid Crackdown in KK Park

ree

hinese scam syndicates have escaped the intense global spotlight on Myawaddy’s KK Park business estate by simply moving their criminal operations elsewhere—to neighboring Shwe Kokko, Kyauk Khet, and Payathonzu, sources say.

They are being assisted by the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), a junta-aligned militia that controls the area and reportedly has major business interests in the scam centers, and the smaller, more ragtag Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) that holds sway in Kyauk Khet.

The move was prompted by the Myanmar military’s very public Oct. 19 raid of KK Park, which sits prominently on the banks of the Moei River on the Thai border, covering roughly 500 acres and run by Chinese crime families.
