POWs Captured by AA; Bodies and Ammunition Revealed

While military pro-junta lobbies spread propaganda claiming the Burmese army is successfully reclaiming Arakan Army (AA) territories, the AA has released evidence of captured prisoners of war (POWs), enemy corpses, and seized ammunition.
A media release dated September 20, 2026, featured photographs and video footage showcasing modern drones and heavy ammunition seized from the Burmese military.
Additionally, the AA reported capturing military hardware, including armored vehicles, weapons, and equipment, alongside several POWs and enemy bodies during recent clashes between Sittwe and Ponnagyun.
The AA Information Desk stated that further footage of seized ammunition and enemy casualties will be uploaded progressively.
The Burmese military launched a heavy offensive on September 4 from Sittwe City, targeting the AA-controlled southern region of Ponnagyun Township across five separate fronts.
However, a counter-offensive launched by the AA between September 5 and 7 resulted in an estimated 200 to 300 junta casualties. Between September 15 and 18, at least 100 more junta soldiers were killed or wounded, with several others taken prisoner.
A military source close to the AA confirmed that four POWs were captured and dozens of soldiers' bodies were recovered following a battle near the Min Chaung River Bridge on the night of September 18.
"The junta troops suffered heavy losses. We captured four POWs in the battle near the island bridge, and recovered a significant cache of weapons along with several bodies," the source told Narinjara. Following the counter-offensive, junta forces have reportedly retreated to one side of the Min Chaung Bridge.
Military sources added that intense fighting continues in the Wabo area of Sittwe Township, where the military has suffered dozens more casualties. Another military insider estimated that the junta's total losses in Sittwe Township over recent days could exceed 100 personnel, including both dead and captured.
"During these past few days, the junta forces have suffered around 100 total casualties, including the wounded and arrested. The AA also recovered roughly 30 to 40 bodies of fallen soldiers," the source said.
Active frontline clashes are currently concentrated between Ponnagyun and Sittwe townships, stretching from the Min Chaung Bridge in Ponnagyun to the Shwe Min Gan River near Sittwe. In response to the junta's offensive, the AA's counter-attacks have successfully overrun at least four frontline military camps.
Regional military analysts note it is still too early to confirm whether the AA is launching a definitive push to seize full control of Sittwe. Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, and Manaung remain the final three townships in the Arakan region still controlled by the junta regime.
Local military sources added that the junta's "Operation 4926," which began on September 4, has failed to achieve its objectives after more than two weeks of fighting.
Concurrently, civilian casualties continue to rise as the desperate regime retaliates with heavy aerial bombardments on residential villages.
