Over 3,000 people affected by floods in Shwegyin Township

Over 3,000 people have been affected by floods in Shwegyin Township, Bago Region, due to continuous heavy rains and rising water levels in the Shwegyin River and Sittaung River, according to the Township General Administration Department. As of 12:30 p.m. on July 28, 3,146 people from 647 households were living in temporary flood shelters, and 10 schools were temporarily closed.
The Township Disaster Management Team, departments, and donors are providing foodstuff and medicine to the affected households. In Shwegyin Township, the water level of the Shwegyin River is at 700 centimeters, while the water level of the Sittaung River is at 1,070 centimeters. According to the Shwe Kyin Township Meteorology and Hydrology Department, the Shwegyin River water level reached 848 centimeters and the Sittaung River reached 1236 centimeters at 12:30 noon on July 28, exceeding the danger level.
