Orders issued for pardons and closure of pending cases under Section 505-A

The National Defence and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar will announce the pardon order and the order to close the pending cases under Section 505-A of the Penal Code on the local news on November 26 at 8 pm, according to a news broadcast by MRTV.
National Defence and Security Council Press Secretary Major General Zaw Min Tun said, “Yesterday, the US government said that it would revoke the TPS status granted to Myanmar and return Myanmar citizens in the United States to Myanmar. I spoke about this yesterday. We said that Myanmar citizens can return to Myanmar and vote. Today, in order for all eligible voters to vote freely in the upcoming multi-party general election, the National Defence and Security Council will issue an order in accordance with Article 427 of the Constitution to close the pending cases of those charged under Section 505-A of the Penal Code and release the defendants those charged under Section 505-A who are absconding from the case. We will issue an order today. The next issue is pardon. Pardon is also available for those convicted under Section 505-A and are in prison and detention. Those who are still serving sentences will be granted amnesty by reducing their sentences.”
