Nine civilians, including five women, were injured in a military airstrike on Kyintali Town

Narinjara, May 21, 2026

Nine civilians were severely injured Thursday morning when a Myanmar military airstrike hit a residential area in Kyintali town. The town is located in Gwa Township, the southernmost district of Rakhine State, near the Ayeyarwady Region border.

At approximately 9:00 am on May 21, two junta jet fighters conducted an aerial bombardment, dropping approximately 10 bombs on the town.

Several of these explosives struck and detonated in Ward No. 2, causing severe injuries to nine local residents.

The victims are currently receiving emergency medical treatment. In addition to the casualties, two residential homes in the neighborhood were damaged.

The nine civilians injured in the bombardment have been identified as: U Nyi Nge (39), Daw Puma (65), Daw Khin Thet (32), U Htay Lwin (45), Daw Khin Moe (58), Daw Kyi Kyi (40), U Myint Win Tin (62), U Pyae Phyo Aung (33), and Ma May Nge (28).

of the victims are residents of Ward No. 2 of Kyintali, a sub-town located in Gwa Township.

Kyintali is currently under the administrative control of the Arakan Army (AA), making it a frequent target for Myanmar military operations and retaliatory airstrikes.

On February 13, 2025, military jet fighters bombed Kyintali town, killing two civilians and injuring three men in Ward 3.

The attack followed a similar airstrike the previous afternoon. On February 12, at approximately 4:00 PM, a bombing in Ward 2 injured a local resident and destroyed two homes.

Earlier that month, on February 8, another airstrike in the area killed one civilian, wounded six others, and leveled several houses.

On February 4, at around 4:00 PM, an aerial bombardment targeted Kant Kaw Taung Village, destroying seven homes alongside local religious buildings.
