New Scam Hubs Rise in BGF Areas Near Myawaddy Despite ‘Crackdown’

New Chinese-run scam compounds are rapidly expanding across territory controlled by Myanmar junta-aligned militias south of Myawaddy in Karen State, even as the regime continues to promote its supposed crackdown on online fraud syndicates.

Residents and activists say criminal networks displaced from the notorious KK Park scam center have not been dismantled, but have instead re‑established themselves in more fortified, remote and fragmented sites designed to evade scrutiny.

Locals report that new scam compounds are rising openly in Mitta Lin Myaing, about 8 km south of Myawaddy town, in territory controlled by the junta‑aligned Karen State Border Guard Force (BGF).
