Myanmar military troops operating in the Yaw region of Magway Region are raping local women, according to a May 25 press release from the Central Military Headquarters of the Yaw Defense Force (YDF).
The YDF reported that the junta's forces are entering towns and villages across the Yaw region, arresting civilians to use as human shields, and forcibly recruiting young men.
In response to these reported war crimes, the YDF has strongly urged local residents to evacuate to safer areas immediately.
In recent days, the junta has deployed thousands of troops to advance through the southern Yaw region and southern Chin State, launching coordinated airstrikes and artillery attacks.
During the offensive, troops killed six local residents from Tabyint and Ywartha villages, located along the Pauk-Kyaukthu-Mindat road in Saw Township.
The victims included a Buddhist monk from Tabyint village, senior Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) teachers U Myo Min Kyaw, U Htun Kyaing, and U Kyaw Thura, a mentally ill woman, and a resident of Ywartha village.
Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on May 26 that a force of more than 1,000 junta troops raided Tabyint and Ywartha villages, abducted residents, and burned down homes.
The Arakan Army (AA), the YDF, and allied resistance forces continue to fiercely resist the military offensive across the region.
